Miami Heat player Dion Waiters just bought a non-waterfront mansion in Pinecrest for a record-breaking $7.4 million, property records show.
The mansion at 5745 Southwest 94th Street marks the priciest home sale in Pinecrest, beating last year’s $5.8 million record sale, Brown Harris Stevens Miami listing agent Marianna Dubinsky said, citing the Multiple Listing Service.
Architect and home builder Frank Mendez is the seller and designer of the custom-built 17,700-square-foot mansion. The trade breaks down to about $440 per square foot.
Records show Mendez purchased the property in 2013 for $1.5 million. He built the mansion on spec with features attractive to professional athletes, Dubinsky said, adding that the home boasts a 12-person shower, a driveway that can fit 30 cars and enough space inside to build a half-court basketball court.
Dubinsky declined to confirm the buyer’s identity. The buyer’s agents Nancy Bernstein and Jonathan Garcia with One Sotheby’s International Realty also declined to comment, citing a non-disclosure agreement.
The mansion, which took a little more than a year to build, hit the market in January 2015 for $9.9 million – meaning it sold for a 25 percent discount off its original listing price.
The listing for the mansion was previously held by Coldwell Banker’s The Jills and Tomi Rose, previously with Opulence International Realty.
The nine-bedroom, 10-and-a-half-bathroom home has a Balinese architectural style and occupies a two-acre lot. Features include 20-foot-high ceilings, three terraces and a six-car, two-sided garage.
Mendez is founder and CEO of Pioneer Inter-Development Inc., which has built more than 100 luxury homes in Pinecrest.
In recent years the village of Pinecrest has been home to a number of NBA players, including Dwyane Wade, Chris “Birdman” Anderson, and former Los Angeles Lakers player Lamar Odom.
In July, former NBA player Carlos Boozer listed his Pinecrest home at 7450 Southwest 100th Street for $3.2 million. Miami Heat player Tyler Johnson also owns a home in Pinecrest.
